Grade 2 Band - AIBF Edmonton

30 Minute performance time and 30 associated clinic session (maximum time including transition from performance to clinic of 60 minutes).

Grade 2 (Medium Easy)

• Description: Suitable for middle school or junior high bands with a few years of experience. Music at this level includes more complex rhythms, expanded ranges, and more independent part writing. There is more frequent use of accidentals, key changes, and dynamic contrasts.
• Typical Characteristics: More complex rhythms, including dotted notes and syncopation, use of different time signatures, greater range, and some sectional independence.

Grade 2.5 (Medium Easy-Medium)

• Description: A bridge between Grades 2 and 3, this level requires a bit more technical proficiency and musical maturity. The music may feature more frequent key changes, more challenging rhythmic passages, and more intricate harmonies.
• Typical Characteristics: Greater use of dynamics and phrasing, more challenging rhythms, and more independent lines within sections.
